Monitoring and modelling by the distinct element method of a slope slipping
Abstract
This paper describes a slope slipping in the Sainte-Marie open pit coal mine (South-West of France). The movement and its instrumentation are first described. In a second part we present the model which has been done by the distinct element method, as well as a comparison between the results of field instrumentation and the numerical model. The model fit well the in-situ measurements. Consequently we can now hope to use this kind of model to analyze other parts of the mine which are presently stable but could present similar problems in the future
