Can a gas explosion, initiated in a flammable jet release, give stronger effects than an explosion in a quiescent atmosphere ?

Résumé

The scenario of a Vapour Cloud Explosion (VCE) corresponds to the generation of a flammable atmosphere, resulting from the massive release of a flammable gas into air, and to the ignition of this atmosphere. It has been established that the mechanical effects of the explosion mainly depend on the speed of the flame, which propagates through the atmosphere. This flame can strongly accelerate, if the area is obstructed by obstacles, because the flow of the unburnt atmosphere gets highly turbulent
