Control of ageing of industrial facilities : comparison of the policies in France and in 4 foreing countries

Abstract : In 2009, INERIS performed a comparative study in France and in four countries (the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Germany and the United States) regarding regulation for control of ageing of industrial facilities. This paper presents the comparative principles for inspections for the following types of equipment: pressure equipment, storage tanks, other vessels or pipes not subjected to pressure regulations, safety instrumented systems, civil works. Proposals for general principles for improving inspections are presented. In January 2010, the "Modernization Plan" launched by the French Ministry of Ecology and Sustainable Development identified 38 measures to improve control of ageing. These principles of these measures are presented.
