Modélisation de la dynamique du mélange de particules de suie avec des goutelettes d'acide sulfurique

Abstract : With the necessity to reduce particulate matter (PM) concentrations for environmental purposes, it becomes more and more desirable to identify the contributions and impacts of the different emission sources. Most chemistry-transport models assume particles to be internally mixed, i.e. a given particle size is associated to a unique chemical composition. The internally-mixed hypothesis implies that particles are instantaneously mixed to surrounding particles. On the contrary, the external mixture enables to have several particle compositions for one given particle size, thus allowing to keep track of emitted particles. In this study, we investigate the 0D modeling the coagulation of an external mixture composed of soot particles and sulfuric acid droplets, following the size distribution approach of Jacobson (2002). First, results enabled us to observe that it is more likely to find particles consisting of a soot core with a thin sulfuric acid layer.
