Aménagement d’une carrière souterraine en une plateforme expérimentale et démonstrative

Abstract : In an underground quarry, INERIS (National Institute of Industrial Environment and Risk) has set up the first experiment and demonstration unit dedicated to the risks relating to the presence of underground cavities. This project aims the development, enhancement and circulation of knowledge regarding risk management relating to underground cavities to all relevant stakeholders who may encounter cavities, more especially local and regional authorities, through a set of demonstrator and experimental workshops. Different instability phenomena (arch rise, fracturing pillars ...), monitoring methods (remote controlled camera, micro-seismic and microphone sensors, rock fall detector net...), evaluation methods of these risks, management measures and means to limit the surface impact are presented and explained. The experimental part of this laboratory involves determining the deformation velocity of a pillar and instabilities linked using climatic and geomechanical sensors operating in an underground environment. To do this, a pillar of the quarry was instrumented (temperature sensors, ambient gallery humidity sensor, rock humidity sensors, extensometer with two anchor points, convergence probe) together with a chalk block immersed in water. Two other tools have been developed and tested: a locating system in relation to the subsurface and the surface and a scanning and characterization tool of the underground environment. The analysis of this information will be exposed in the present article.
