Captage du CO2 : le projet OXYCOMB

Abstract : Greenhouse gas emissions have to be drastically reduced to limit global warming effects. Fossil fuels (coal, natural gaz and oil) represent 81% of the global energetic mix in 2008 and coal is the second fuel source after oil but is the first in terms of CO2 emissions. Thus, in addition to the long-term alternatives to be taken, considering the ermergency, it becomes necessary to get viable technologies at disposal to offer several technical solutions to limit these greenhouse gas emissions. The CCS (Carbon dioxide Capture and Storage) could contribute up to 20-33% of the desired CO2 emission reduction. The main issue before deploying industrially these capture solutions is to face the technological constraints and to prevent industrial accidents which could delay its development. INERIS and the Industrial process engineering laboratory of the Université Technologique de Compiègne (UTC) joigned for the OXYCOMB project. This project (started in 2008 for 19 months) financed by the ADEME (Agence de l’Environnement et de la Maîtrise de l’Energie) aimed at designing, validating and optimising an oxycombustion process with natural gas integrating safety on a pilot unit of 300 kW. Inflammability and explosivity properties of the gas mixing were determined. Risk analysis were performed to identify the amin accident scenarios and to propose technical and organisational recommandations at different levels (design, operation, maintenance). Experimentations on the pilot enabled to optimise the operating parameters of oxycombustion (recylcing rate, O2 excess concentration, heat transfer) and to analyse the flue gases impurities.
