Gestion des risques environnementaux liés à l’exploitation des hydrocarbures de roche mère

Abstract : The potential extraction of shale gas generated a very lively social debate in France, illustrating the contrast between two logics: on the one hand the relevance to exploit an energy resource, available in France and, on the other hand, the serious questions related to the use of the “hydro-fracking” technique in terms of environmental and health impacts. INERIS is not intended to support or reject any potential industrial sector but to make available to stakeholders an independent and integrative expertise concerning risk assessment and prevention. This paper presents the major scientific issues and research priorities to develop knowledge and reduce uncertainty regarding the consequences of the hydro-fracking technique. It focuses notably on the impacts and risks generated with respect to the rockmass, the water resources as well as those due to exploitation of surface facilities.
