Enseignements du suivi de l’injection de 120 kg de co2 dans une veine de charbon à l’aide d’un monitoring microsismique et d’un monitoring des gaz en continu

Abstract : In the framework of the CARBOLAB research project funded by the European Research Fund for Coal and Steel, INERIS has monitored a CO2 injection test performed in a coal seam of a Spanish deep mine. The aim was to study both the enhancement of the coal bed methane recovery and the CO2 storage by adsorption onto coal. Passive seismic monitoring and gas monitoring have been performed. Monitoring revealed that leakage occurred during the injection test and that’s why gas migration was not monitored in coal but only in the surrounding rocks. Nevertheless, passive seismic monitoring and continuous gas monitoring proved to be valuable tools to observe gas migration and the rock behaviour during the injection. They also helped us to understand the discrepancies between observations and predictions. The results we obtained will help us to draw recommendations and to design future in-situ injection operations in coal, as well as CO2-enhanced coal bed methane recovery operations.
