Etude expérimentale du renforcement d’une cavité par géosynthétique en présence d’un remblai cohésif

Abstract : The purpose of this paper is experimental study to test the model of Huckert et al. (2013), developed to design a geosynthetic layer in the presence of a cohesive soil. The experimental device used (trapdoor) allowed the creation of a cavity under a reinforced natural soil. 6 tests (repeated 3 times) have been carried out with a cohesive natural soil with or without reinforcement. Ground motion and geosynthetic layer displacements have been performed using image correlation technique. At the opposite of a granular soil layer reinforced by geosynthetic, the failure and collapse of a cohesive layer is brutal with the creation of blocks, loading the geosynthetic layer in the form of a set of point forces. The experimental results are compared to the analytical results based on the model of Huckert et al. (2013). The obtained results clearly show the ability of the analytical model to reproduce the behavior of reinforced cohesive soil but also the need for improvement to better take into account the block collapse behavior of the soil.
